INTC (Intel) — Buy-Write

I established a new position today in INTC (Intel) using a buy-write.

I purchased 100 shares of INTC and simultaneously sold the September 30 $125 call, receiving a net option premium of $3.74 per share, or $374 for the contract before final commissions and fees.

Why I Made the Trade

My previous 200 INTC shares were recently called away at $100 and $103.

At the time, I considered rolling those calls again, but I didn't think the available premium was attractive enough to justify keeping the capital committed. I let the shares go and said I'd look for another opportunity.

Today, I found one.

Rather than holding onto the previous position simply because I already owned it, I allowed the shares to be called away, freed up the capital and waited until the economics became more attractive to me.

The $3.74 premium on the September 30 $125 call was enough for me to establish a new 100-share position and put the covered call on at the same time.

I'm comfortable with either outcome. If INTC remains below $125, I'll continue owning the shares and can evaluate another covered-call opportunity. If the shares are called away at $125, that's an outcome I accepted when I entered the buy-write.

Interestingly, I'm making this trade today while traveling near Pompeii, Italy. The scenery keeps changing, but my process hasn't: watch the positions, wait for an opportunity, and act when the economics make sense to me.

Execution Parameters: I was comfortable making this trade around the prices shown above. If the stock or option has moved materially by the time you receive this alert, I would not chase it. The economics may be different from the trade I made.
