What This Journal Is About
Options Income Journal is a real-world record of how I trade options for income. The trades you'll see here are actual trades made in my own accounts—including the prices I paid, premiums I received, adjustments I made, and the eventual results.
My primary focus is straightforward: generate consistent options income while managing risk and remaining flexible as market conditions change. I primarily use covered calls, cash-secured puts, buy-writes, and position management such as rolling an existing option when I believe it improves the economics of the position.
Some trades work exactly as planned. Others require adjustments. Sometimes I'll roll a position, close it early, or simply allow the shares to be assigned or called away. You'll see all of it—the decisions, the adjustments, and the final results.
This isn't intended to be a collection of perfect trades presented after the fact. The purpose is to document the actual process—including the decisions that worked, the ones that didn't, and what I learned along the way.
How to Read Options Income Journal
Each trade entry will show the actual transaction I made, including the security, option strike and expiration, and my actual fill price. I'll also explain why I made the trade and, when appropriate, follow the position through rolls, adjustments, assignment, expiration, or closing the trade.
Historical Journal Entries
When Options Income Journal launches, you'll also find historical entries documenting trades I made before the journal went live. These are actual trades and actual fills from my account, reconstructed from my trading records so you can see how positions developed and were managed over time.
New Trade Alerts
Once the journal is live, new trade alerts will document trades as I make them. These alerts will include my actual fill, the reasoning behind the trade, and relevant details about the position at the time of execution.
Execution Parameters
The prices reported in Options Income Journal are my actual execution prices. Stock and option prices can move materially between the time I execute a trade and the time an alert reaches you. If the economics of a trade have changed, do not chase my reported fill. Options Income Journal documents the trades I make in my own account; these are not trade instructions or signals.
